11/15/2025 Housekeeping

This is just a quick update on some minor changes to how I'm doing things that have happened since I started the blog a few weeks ago.

I've recently decided to commit to using a capitalization scheme that's more in line with how the card game does things. I'm in the process of going back through old articles and addressing this new philosophy, while I look for typos and such. Here are some examples of what will be capitalized:

  • Classifications like Basic, Trainer, and Evolution will be capitalized. "Cards" will be capitalized when it's part of a phrase like "Trainer Card" or "Evolution Card." Note that the game mechanic also called "evolution" will not be capitalized; just the card type.
    • Energy Cards will be capitalized but the concept of the energy they provide won't be. They're technically two separate things.
  • The names of types (Grass, Fire, Water, etc.) will be capitalized. If you see one of these words without capitalization, I'm referring to the literal element itself.
  • The word Pokémon will always be capitalized.
  • Status ailments (poison, sleep) and parts of the play area (bench, active, hand) will NOT be capitalized. I went back and forth on this, but it just feels weird to capitalize these.
  • Weakness, resistance, and retreat cost will not be capitalized. I need to go back and re-address this in several articles where I hadn't made up my mind yet.

Note that these rules will lead to some strange gray areas, where you could argue that a word should have or should not have been capitalized, but I'll try to be consistent.

Articles that were left-aligned have been changed to be justified. This is the new visual style going forward. I hope you'll forgive me if I forget to align a post here or there.

A few scores on old reviews have changed. Arguments from other players moved my opinion on cards like Fossil Slowbro and Jungle Seaking. I won't be announcing every time I change an old grade, but just know that my opinions do shift from time to time.

I may retire the deck list posts. While I do love making new decks, I don't actually enjoy explaining them very much. All of the most competitively relevant decks have been covered elsewhere anyway, so it feels weird trying to come up with excuses to replace one or two cards from decks that are so highly optimized.

Please feel free to voice any suggestions or complaints. The purpose of this post is just to make the direction the blog is heading in clear moving forward.

I wish you a wonderful weekend as I work on my housekeeping.
